When I first learned about the Iditarod last year, I was surprised and impressed by the endurance and determination both the mushers and dogs have. I couldn't imagine spending 9+ days outside in the freezing Alaskan wilderness! I think I would be very afraid.
I also loved the bond the mushers have with their dogs. I can't imagine the kind of trust the mushers must have in their dogs to lead them safely along the correct trail, especially when they mush at night. I love my dog, but I don't know if I would be willing to put my life in his (ahem) paws. That's what these mushers are doing, they are trusting these dogs with their lives. It's pretty incredible.

The coolest thing I learned about the Iditarod is probably what it is.Before the fifth grade, I had no idea what the Iditarod is. I also think it is so amazing that the mushers trust their dogs with their life. But I think it is horrific for the mushers to put their dogs through something like the Iditarod, though it is a nice opportunity for the dogs and the mushers to bond.I would love to race in the Iditarod when I am old enought, but it is so cold in Alaska that I doubt I would survive.I'd also need 12-16 dogs so....That is the coolest thing I learned about the Iditarod.

The coolest things I learned is that they start at 2 min starts and Martin Buser stayed at Rhon and some mushers were surprised about Martin Buser staying at Rhon.
